Începutul și consimțământul

Preotul, în mod solemn şi pe rând, pune mirilor următoarea întrebare:
Preotul: (numele), vrei tu să iei pe (numele), care e aici de faţă, ca să-ţi fie soţie legiuită (soţ legiuit), după rânduiala Sfintei Maicii Biserici?
Răspuns: Vreau.
Mirii fac promisiunea fiecare, zicând:
Mirele: EU, (numele), te iau pe tine, (numele), de soţie legiuită, să te am şi să te ţin de azi înainte, în bine, în rău, în bogăţie, în sărăcie, în boală şi în sănătate, până ce ne va despărţi moartea.

Apoi preotul binecuvântează inelele și le dă mai întâi mirelui, care pune inelul miresei pe degetul ei, zicând:

Învredniceşte-i a-şi vedea pe fiii fiilor lor; păzeşte traiul lor nealeşuit; şi le dă lor din roua cerului de sus şi din grăsimea pământului; umple casa lor de grâu, de vin şi de untdelemn, şi de toată bunătatea, ca să dea şi celor lipsiţi; dăruieşte lor, şi celor ce sunt împreună cu dânşii, toate cererile cele spre mântuire. A doua rugăciune și încununarea

Preotul: DUMNEZEULE sfinte, care din ţărână ai zidit pe om, şi din coasta lui i-ai zidit muiere şi ai dat-o lui ajutor asemenea lui, pentru că aşa a plăcut măririi Tale, să nu fie omul singur pe pământ: însuţi, Stăpâne, trimite şi acum mâna Ta din sfânt lăcaşul Tău, şi uneşte pe robul tău (numele) şi pe roaba ta (numele) pentru că de la Tine este unirea bărbatului cu femeia. Tatăl nostru și troparele

You accepted Zechariah and Elizabeth and made their child the Forerunner. From the root of Jesse, according to the flesh, You brought forth the ever-virgin Mary; from her You became incarnate and were born for the salvation of the human race.
In Your ineffable gift and great goodness, You came to Cana of Galilee and blessed the marriage feast there, thereby showing that lawful marriage and the bearing of children are according to Your will.
Therefore, O most holy Master, accept the prayer of us, Your servants. As You were present there, so be present here also by Your invisible presence, and bless this marriage. Grant to these Your servants, N. and N., a peaceful life, length of days, chastity, mutual love in a bond of peace, long-lived descendants, joy in their children, and an unfading crown of glory.
Grant that they may see their children’s children. Preserve their marriage bed unassailed. Give them of the dew of heaven from above and of the fruitfulness of the earth. Fill their home with wheat, wine, oil, and every good thing, that they may share with those in need. Grant also to those who are here with them all that they ask for their salvation.
For You are the God of mercy, compassion, and love for humankind, and we give glory to You, together with Your eternal Father and Your all-holy, good, and life-giving Spirit, now and for ever and ever.

Reader: Brothers and sisters, give thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Be subject to one another out of reverence for Christ.
Wives, be subject to your husbands as to the Lord; for the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ is the head of the Church, His Body, and is Himself its Saviour. As the Church is subject to Christ, so also wives should be subject in everything to their husbands.
Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the Church and gave Himself up for her, that He might sanctify her, cleansing her by the washing of water with the word, that He might present the Church to Himself in splendour, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish.
So husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, as Christ does the Church, because we are members of His Body.
“For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” This is a great mystery, and I speak of Christ and the Church. However, let each of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife show respect for her husband.

Priest: At that time there was a wedding at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Jesus and His disciples had also been invited to the wedding.
When the wine ran short, the mother of Jesus said to Him: “They have no wine.”
Jesus said to her: “Woman, what is this to you and to Me? My hour has not yet come.”
His mother said to the servants: “Do whatever He tells you.”
Now six stone jars were standing there for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding two or three measures. Jesus said to them: “Fill the jars with water.” And they filled them to the brim.
Then He said to them: “Now draw some out, and take it to the steward of the feast.” So they took it.
When the steward of the feast tasted the water that had become wine, and did not know where it had come from—though the servants who had drawn the water knew—the steward called the bridegroom and said to him: “Everyone serves the good wine first; and when people have drunk freely, then the poorer wine. But you have kept the good wine until now.”
Jesus did this, the first of His signs, at Cana in Galilee, and manifested His glory; and His disciples believed in Him.

Prayer After the Gospel

Priest: O Lord our God, in Your saving providence You graciously showed the honour of marriage by Your presence at Cana of Galilee. Now preserve in peace and harmony these Your servants, N. and N., whom You have been pleased to join to one another.
Make their marriage honourable. Preserve their marriage bed undefiled. Grant that their life together may remain without reproach. Make them worthy to attain a ripe old age, fulfilling Your commandments with a pure heart.
For You are our God, the God of mercy and salvation, and we give glory to You, together with Your eternal Father and Your all-holy, good, and life-giving Spirit, now and for ever and ever.

The Lord’s Prayer
Priest: And make us worthy, O Master, that with confidence and without condemnation we may dare to call upon You, the heavenly God, as Father, and to say:

The priest gives the common cup three times, first to the bridegroom and then to the bride. He then leads them three times around the tetrapod, while the people sing the following troparia:
All: Rejoice, O Isaiah! The Virgin is with child and shall bear a Son, Emmanuel, who is God and Man; Orient is His name. As we magnify Him, we call the Virgin blessed.
O holy martyrs, who fought the good fight and have received your crowns, intercede with the Lord that He may have mercy on our souls.
Glory to You, O Christ God, the Apostles’ boast, the martyrs’ joy, whose preaching is the consubstantial Trinity.
Removal of Crowns
The priest removes the crown from the bridegroom:
Priest: Be exalted like Abraham, O bridegroom; be blessed like Isaac; and multiply like Jacob, walking in peace and keeping the commandments of God in righteousness.
The priest removes the crown from the bride:
Priest: And you, O bride, be exalted like Sarah, rejoice like Rebecca, and multiply like Rachel; rejoice in your husband and keep the precepts of the law, for this is pleasing to God.
Final Prayer and Blessing

Priest: O God, our God, who came to Cana of Galilee and blessed the marriage feast there, bless also these Your servants, who through Your providence have now been united in the communion of marriage.
Bless their going out and their coming in. Fill their life with good things. Receive their crowns into Your Kingdom, preserving them spotless, blameless, and without reproach for ever and ever.
